A summer urban forestry internship position is available for the Town of Holly Springs, North Carolina, which provides a unique and diverse learning experience for a forestry student. Under the direction of the Department of Planning & Zoning, the Urban Forestry Intern will conduct urban forest management activities through hands-on learning, collecting and analyzing data, and performing related research. Position requires the ability to identify and assess a variety of tree species and common insect pests and diseases; knowledge of and ability to proficiently use computer applications including Microsoft Office; knowledge of geographic information systems; proficiency in GPS technologies; and the ability to work both independently and as a member of a team. Prefer the completion of at least one dendrology course and coursework in tree or forest health. Candidates should be currently enrolled in a two or four-year college level Arboriculture, Urban Forestry, Forestry, Horticulture, Landscape Architecture or closely related Natural Resources program at an accredited college or university. A valid driver's license is required. $10.00 an hour. The normal work week is Monday through Friday, up to 40 hours a week with flexible scheduling available.
